Message From Our President – October 2024

The past few months have been super busy with planning Greyhounds on the Greens, preparing for the September arrival of eight Aussie greyhounds, and planning the upcoming BooRoounion.

We have new volunteers who are learning to help with managing hound vet care, providing foster support, and helping with the adoption and placement process. In addition, we have someone writing a foster and adopter handbook and volunteers helping with Meet and Greets in Scottsdale and Tucson. All of these activities support our mission to rehome greyhounds into loving forever homes, and we thank everyone who is pitching in to help.

One of our newest volunteers, Kathy Casey, said it best while being trained on the internal systems and processes used to manage greyhounds in our care, “I had no idea there were so many things that have to happen to get dogs in and placed in their forever homes!” And then she added, “How do you remember everything?!??!” I think that was my favorite comment since I tend to look at the things I forget versus the things I remember.

To give you an idea of the scope of work, it took about 20 volunteers between the Sydney group and SA Greys to get eight healthy greyhounds from Sydney to Tucson. Once in Tucson, add the three members of Caring Ways and two volunteers who took the dogs to their well visits.

And we can’t forget the fosters and foster support team. Almost another 20 people help to provide care and support until the dogs find their forever homes. Many dedicated volunteers and loving greyhound workers help to welcome Aussie hounds into American homes.

As long as we have approved adopters, we will bring hounds in each month. Our next group is due to come in right before the BooRoounion, and we’re also looking at arrivals in November, December, and beyond. Please spread the word that we need both foster and forever homes for these hounds.

Believe it or not, we’re coming up on Board election time. The following positions are open for nominations: President, Vice-President, and Operations Director. If you are interested in learning more about the positions before nominating someone or tossing in your hat, please contact me to discuss what the roles involve.

What a wild ride this year has been with changes in greyhound availability, the increase in active volunteers, and the wonderful people who continue to support us with beautiful hounds and more.

Forever greytful,

Debbie
