Lady’s Luck – A Greyt Story

Arizona Greyhound Adoption volunteer, Carla, makes it a practice to scour Craigslist for greyhounds listed for adoption. In fact, several years back, Carla discovered a listed greyhound, lept into action, and had the hound returned to the organization to find it a new home. Spoiler alert – Carla and her husband adopted the hound into their family.

Fast forward to about a month ago – Arizona Greyhound Adoption contacted us about a greyhound listed for sale on Craigslist for $2,800. Jeanne Gacke cleverly used the map location on the listing to get an idea of where the seller was and then searched our internal database to see if it was one of our dogs. Sadly, it was. It was then easy to positively identify the hound, since the photo on Craigslist was the same one we got when the dog was adopted. We were shocked, heartbroken, and angry, but we were able to, thanks to our adoption agreement, secure a signed surrender agreement and take Lady back into our care.

It’s funny how life works out. We were told Carla had recently lost one of her greyhounds, Barley. No one was quite sure if she and her husband, Jesse, would be ready or interested in adopting another hound so soon. But after Lady stayed with us for a week or so, Carla reached out saying they would like to meet her.

We had a meet and greet at the golf course during Greyhounds on the Greens, and in front of all the attendees, during lunch, we shared Lady’s story and announced that Carla and Jesse had decided to adopt her. It’s not every day a crowd of 40 some people get to witness an adoption!

We later learned Jesse always had a soft spot for fawn colored greyhounds and, coincidentally, Lady is a fawn. We truly believe that Barley, their angel hound, had a paw or two in connecting Carla, Jesse, and Jody with Lady.

We recently checked in to see how things were going and how Lady was settling in. They replied, “We love Lady! She is very sweet and cuddly. However we don’t think she’s a greyhound. We think she’s actually a wild dingo that accidentally made her way to the track. She’s so spunky and silly, and it rubbed off on Jody, which is awesome!”

Lady’s luck had changed thanks to Carla, Jesse, and Jody.
