Message From Our President – May 2023

The past two months were filled with a flurry of activity. Even with summer on the horizon, there are still a number of activities in the works, all thanks to volunteers.

Arizona Gives Day. Wow! There was a lot of work that went into preparing for the fundraising day. Of course, we missed Mary Freeman and wish we had her wisdom and insight, yet Ann Chihak Poff, Karyn Zoldan, Jeanne Gacke and I took on the event and combined our experiences with fundraising, storytelling and graphic skills to have, dare I say, an outcome that I think took us by surprise. Besides exceeding our $15,000 fundraising goal by raising $16,007, we came in third place out of more than 300 groups who matched us in size. However, without our donors, we would have never reached the pleasantly surprising outcome. THANK YOU!

I am constantly in awe of our volunteers. We have two committees working on fundraising events, we have volunteers who have set up monthly Meet and Greets at a PetSmart in Scottsdale. We sent an email plea looking for fosters for the incoming greyhounds and within 24 hours, we had a tremendous response. We’ve had more people raise their hands to help with home visits and assist with communications and more. And our geographic territory of volunteers keeps expanding. All for the love of greyhounds.

Thanks to everyone. Whether it’s donation of time, money, fuel, spreading the awareness of the availability of greyhounds and more, together we make a difference to retired greyhounds.
