Proclamation Reward: Honoring and recognizing Jeanne Gacke

We recently came across a framed Proclamation from 2017, when then mayor Jonathan Rothschild proclaimed April 7, 2017 as Tucson Greyhound Adoption Day. The proclamation shares a brief history of the majestic breed and recognizes Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption’s volunteers for providing the opportunity to better the lives of ex-racing greyhounds by securing loving and qualified “forever homes.”
Reading through the proclamation, it beautifully describes the work of SA Greys, a 100% all-volunteer organization. Instead of placing the framed proclamation back in a box, it seemed more fitting to see it hanging on someone’s wall.
This thought led to the decision to recognize a volunteer once a year, in April, for their dedication to bettering the lives of ex-racing greyhounds. To kick off the new tradition, the choice was easy for us. It was with great honor to recognize Jeanne Gacke for her endless hours of interviews and coordination of placing greyhounds in their forever homes. We hate to think of the miles she has put on her car escorting greyhounds from the airport and to their new homes. And these activities are really just the tip of the iceberg. Jeanne is like a shortstop to our team — backing up other teammates and jumping in to assist.
Congratulations, Jeanne Gacke! Hang the proclamation with pride and remember our endless gratitude for all you do.
