Message From Our President – March 2023

It’s hard to believe March is here already.
The Annual Meeting held on Jan. 12, was the perfect kick-off to the new year. It was the first in-person meeting since the COVID days and we were thrilled with the turnout both in-person and guests on the video call. I shared a presentation Irish to America created by John Parker, coordinator of the Irish program. Most people were unaware of the number of people, the amount of effort and the expenses of rehoming Irish hounds. You asked great questions and there was a good discussion.
Next month, we will celebrate the one year anniversary of our first group of Irish greyhounds that arrived April 8, 2022 in Los Angeles. I would have never guessed we’d find ourselves a year later working to assist Australia in rehoming efforts in addition to Ireland. On Jan. 26, SA Greys was honored to be selected to accept a flight of eight greyhounds from Greyhound Racing New South Wales (GRNSW) (Sydney). Because of circumstances with working agreements, we asked to stay out of the limelight. That didn’t stop our friends at GRNSW, which gave us accolades and were mentioned in an interview being referred to as “the amazing and dedicated group from Tucson, Ariz.” That works for me!
I greatly appreciate the support as we are learning ways to help match greyhounds in need of homes to adopters. I’m proud to be a part of the “amazing and dedicated group from Tucson” and that group is made up of everyone. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without your support and help.
Beyond grateful,
Debbie
