Mea culpa. I planned to interview someone for Part 3, but life happens and days slip away.

In lieu of that, a recent get-together lunch happened for greyhound adopters who have known each other for more than 20 years. We previously volunteered for another rescue group. And we all came over to SA Greys. The seven of us combined have 180 years of greyhound adoption experience, which began in 1995 and continues today for Cynthia and Mary who still have one hound each. All total we have adopted 30 dogs; nine that died from osteosarcoma or other cancer-related issues.

Mary fostered 27 dogs. Linda fostered numerous broken leg dogs; she fostered my Daisy for six months before I adopted her. Diana and her spouse, Mary Freeman (who has since died), fostered at least 15 dogs who were injured or had behavior issues. Cynthia foster-failed every dog. Joan fostered 17 dogs and I fostered 12.

Linda and Diana were board members. Diana’s cat, Barney, was the official cat tolerance tester. Diana had a greyhound service dog and Cynthia has a pet-therapy dog. All of us volunteered for an abundance of meet and greets and fundraising events around town.

Genie said we needed a name so dubbed us the Greyt Grey Girls. Laughter permeated our lunch as we remembered our hounds’ antics. We are extremely grateful not only for our hounds but for our cohesive bond of everlasting friendship. While there are many paths in life, we most likely would not have crossed those paths except for adopting our beloved needle noses.
