Southern Arizona Greyhound Adoption needs people who want to further the transition of retired race dogs to couch potatoes. The more solid core of volunteers we have, the more greyhounds we can help. As a volunteer, you can participate in regularly scheduled assignments like kennel turnouts and meet & greets around Tucson; or help on an as needed basis.
Here are some ways for how you can be a part of a dedicated group of people who strive to create happy endings:
Foster care – Greyhounds fresh off the track have no house experience; they never saw a TV, tile, stairs, kids, or other pets. Are you ready to watch a greyhound blossom from your one-to-one TLC and ready him or her for a forever home? Greyhounds are generally quick learners. See our fostering guide for details.
Respite foster care – A few nights of foster care after spay/neuter or reg. foster care person goes on vacation
Transport – Drivers are always needed to take a dog from the kennel to vet for surgery, etc.
For Brainiacs - Grant writing & research. Write articles for blogs. Produce videos parlaying our message. Publish newsletters, and much more.
For Outgoing Personalities - Outreach at meet & greet venues, meet the public, show off the dogs Speakers Bureau Assist adoption coordination Request raffle/silent auction items as needed Recruit sponsors for events. Sell merchandise at events.
For Special Events – as needed - Santa photos, animal fair, art fairs, flash mobs, newsletter assembly, hang posters around town, Pampered Pooches – wash dogs/trim nails.
We also appreciate your ideas and contacts. Volunteers age 12 and older are welcome.
Please complete a volunteer application or foster application and we will do out best to contact you within 2 to 3 days. (We are all volunteers!)
