Operations News – June 2024

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as
improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.”
~Benjamin Franklin

Six months ago, I was honored to take on the role of Operations Director for SA Greys. I’m sharing what I’ve been up to in those first six months.

At our Annual Meeting in January, I shared our 2024 focus items, which included a geographical focus, enhanced adopter education, engagement and proper pairing of our hounds. I’m delighted to report that we have made significant progress in educating our adopters and empowering them to provide the best care for our hounds. Let me explain.

Geography: We strategically decided to adopt only in areas with active volunteers, such as Southern Arizona, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Albuquerque and El Paso.

Engagement: We created a private Facebook group that only adopters and those affiliated with SA Greys can join. Have you joined yet? Email nancy@sagreys.org for your unique invitation code. We are exploring other venues for our non-Facebook users.

Our operations team receives a weekly email update on the status of all dogs in our care. We also have bi-weekly Zoom meetings.

Adopter Education: Our new Grey Guide, a comprehensive resource, is now available on our website and distributed to all new adopters, is designed to provide you with the support and knowledge you need, especially in the early days of adoption. We’ve made it accessible in both book and PDF versions.

We didn’t stop there with our efforts to better educate our adopters. Also on our website is the “Lost Dog” handbook. This reference gives you a step-by-step guide should your hound ever need help.

Health and Welfare: We have equipped all new hounds with a GPS tracking device, which transfers to the owners upon adoption. We are also offering the units at a reduced cost to our existing adopters. Email operations@sagreys.org for more information.

Pairing: We carefully use the initial behavior assessment to properly place our hounds in a suitable foster home. After spending some time with the foster family, the family submits an online form that provides us with yet another more detailed behavior assessment. Using these tools, we can better place our hounds in the appropriate home.

The next six months:

Revamp the website, which will provide more resources and information that will be helpful to our adopters.

Continue to focus on building a quality group of fosters to show the newbie hounds the ropes. Note to existing fosters: Can ya’ll clone yourselves? You are fantastic!

Continue to explore new ways to educate and inform new and existing adopters.

Find organizations and opportunities to promote the hounds and what we do to “lunch and learn” events; greater public outreach.

And more …

Always moving forward,

Nancy
