Ronny
Hi, I’m Ronny. I’m 4 years old, ridiculously handsome, and fully aware of it.
Apparently, the official description says I’m stunningly handsome, friendly, outgoing, and confident. Frankly, I think “stunningly handsome” covered it, but I’m happy to accept the rest.
My racing owner says I’m a chilled-out, laid-back, independent kind of guy. Translation: I’m not needy. I have things to do. Naps to take. Rooms to casually stroll into. People to charm. I’m perfectly capable of entertaining myself, although I will graciously allow you to admire me whenever you’d like.
Now, I haven’t had a lot of experience with those mysterious creatures known as other breeds of dogs. Greyhounds? I understand the assignment. Everyone else? I’m still reading the instruction manual.
During my assessment, I met some medium-sized dogs and was very interested in saying hello. Perhaps a little too interested at first—what can I say? I’m sociable. With a little guidance, though, I managed perfectly respectable greetings and was able to move along when asked.
Then I met the little dogs.
On a short lead, I was an absolute gentleman: polite greeting, soft body language, excellent manners. Ten out of ten. No notes.
But then somebody let those tiny creatures start running after toys.
Excuse me.
They RUN?
Well, naturally, my retired-racing-greyhound brain briefly shouted, “THE GAME HAS BEGUN!”
So yes, when little dogs start zooming around, I may need some reminders that I am retired and nobody has asked me to participate. With sensible introductions, supervision, and clear boundaries, I should continue learning that small fluffy things are neighbors, not competitors.
I also did airline crate training, where I quickly lay down, settled in, and remained calm and quiet for the rest of the session. Because unlike some travelers, I do not complain about the legroom, demand snacks every fifteen minutes, or clap when the plane lands.
Overall, I’m a confident, friendly fellow who settles beautifully once I’m comfortable. Give me some structure, clear expectations, and a little time to learn the strange customs of pet-dog life, and I think I’ll make one fabulous companion.
So, what am I looking for?
A nice home.
People who appreciate handsome men.
Clear rules.
Comfy beds.
Reasonable snack distribution.
And perhaps someone willing to remind me occasionally that retirement means I no longer have to chase everything that moves.
Love,
Ronny
